How to Stop Automatic Updates on Windows 10

Are you fed-up with Windows 10 installing updates automatically without any notice? You want to stop this automatic update?
By following only two ways you can stop automatic update. So let's start:

First Way: Stop and Disable Windows Update Service.  

Follow these steps to stop and disable  Windows Update Service:
  1. Open the Run Command by pressing the Windows key and R key at the Same time (Win+R). 
  2. Type in services.msc and press Enter.

  3. Select the Windows Update service from the Services list then Right-click on it and select Properties.

  4. Click on the General tab then select Stop from Service Status and change the Startup Type to Disabled.

N.B. When you want to re-enable automatic updates you just follow the same procedure except you select “Automatic” when choosing the “Startup Type” 

Second Way: Change update settings using the Group Policy Editor.

You can use the Local Group Policy editor to change the Windows Update settings to decide when updates should install.
  1. Open the Run Command by pressing the Windows key and R key at the Same time (Win+R)
  2. Type in gpedit.msc and Press Enter.

  3. Expand Computer Configuration and click Administrative Templates.

  4. In the Right pane double click on Windows Components and then double click Windows Update.
  5. Choose the Policy Configure Automatic Updates then Right click and select Edit.

  6. Select Enabled option and Then Select the option that indicates Notify for download and auto install. You can also set Scheduled install day and Scheduled install time.
  7. Click Apply and OK.

  8. Type gpupdate /force at your Run Command and press Enter to finish updating the group policy editor.
Now you should be notified by Windows if it finds updates but they should not be automatically installed any longer.
